AN ELDER’S PLEA
Our hearts feel cramped within our chest
We’ve been too long indoors, I guess
Stretched to the ultimate, test on test
Bordering on a confined state of unrest.
A year and a half, scrapped from our life
Writhing, squirming, strife within strife
Trapped, pinned by the blade of a knife
And struggling hard against pain so rife.
By nature, our span of life nearly spent
Minds tired with seeds of discontent
For we’re tenants on earth, paying a rent.
The term is fixed for the life we’re sent.
How can we fathom time to complete
In closure of aims, in no sense of defeat
With weakened bodies and heavy of feet
Trudging the miles to our last retreat.
God of mercy show compassion we pray
Inspire, edify us, at the close of day
For faith to race on to the end of the fray
This too shall pass, lead kindly our way.
To succumb not, our endurance increase
With humble request we bow our knees
Save us, listen to our young ones’ pleas
As we all storm heaven, till this evil flees.
