WALKING THE EXTRA MILE

WALKING THE EXTRA MILE

O Magnificent God, you granted sonship
To us unworthy mortals, contemptible, defiled.
With Mercy, you extended your Mighty Hand
Firmly clasping ours, walking the extra mile

We fumbled and fell, yet Lord, you forgave us
Encompassed us with your tender, loving smile
Raised us up, when crucified, you were risen
You wept, we slept, left you walking the extra mile

Your Covenant of Love, to us Lord, you bestowed
For grief to subside, and with it ego and guile
To love you and actively love our neighbour
With arms entwined, walking the extra mile

Yet we serve ourselves and build high walls around us,
Unreachable, as in trenches of war men pile
We choose to ignore the sufferings of our brethren
Flying high, instead of walking the extra mile.

Lord sublime, we are blind and so confounded
We seek our Omnipresent God, and all the while
You’re right beside us, yet we deny and know you not
As you trudge alongside, walking the extra mile.

Let the scales drop off our eyes, restore our sight
May wisdom enlighten us to make our lives worthwhile
To stop our aimless wandering, Lord, our steps redirect
To love and aid one another, walking the extra mile.
