PAUSE OF THE PLANETS

PAUSE OF THE PLANETS.

The planets were in dialogue,
All discussing the Sun,
At centre, it had monopoly,
Over each and everyone.

Venus, the brightest morning star,
Constantly mopping her brow,
Was bent on exchanging places
With dark Saturn, anyhow!

Mercury, in his wisdom,
Declined from taking sides,
Clearly content at being
One of Sun’s closest aides!

Felt they, the Sun had brilliance,
Extreme to a degree,
And forced on them an orbit,
Timed for all eternity!

Said they, We’ve got to spin around
With utmost precision,
With no room for break or interval,
Observe the strictest discipline!

In case of slightest laxity,
On the part of any star,
The World would be in jeopardy,
So it was either make or mar!

The planets closest to the Sun,
Had sufferings the most,
Fiery intensity they faced,
Almost burnt their sheaths to toast!

While Jupiter and company,
A twin advantage shared,
Added to a slower orbit,
An even cooler climate fared!

The Earth, feeling clearly spent,
Voiced a panting, worried thought,
Its resources almost depleted,
Its crust extremely hot.

Directing a thoughtful gaze
At the iridescent Mars,
It wondered if a merger,
Might benefit both the stars.

Jupiter, howling in derision,
Seemed to enjoy Earth’s sad plight!
Mighty and strong, this planet;
It posed a formidable sight.

There was just a slight resemblance
It looked at Earth askance,
Not enough to house the life forms,
It averred with the surest stance.

Not in the heated debate
The coolest of cucumbers,
Were Neptune and Uranus,
The two most favored numbers!

All argued, until exhausted,
With slow, defeated sigh,
They trudged again their orbits,
As Sun watched with twinkling eye!
