A BUTTERFLY’S SONG.
I am a pretty little butterfly,
Spreading my wings for the winds to try
I flit among flowers for the pollen sweet,
Oh! What a simply delightful treat!
Then I spread my golden gossamer wings,
Drawn to the meadow where the cricket sings,
Soon I’ll head once more for the sky so bright,
I am a butterfly dressed in white (poised for flight!)
Higher and higher in the deep blue sky,
I soar all the sights that are passing by,
A grasshopper’s cry meets me loud and clear,
I dive to the nearest flower in fear!
Oh! Nature’s wild call, the rustle of leaves,
As they fly to the trees, the birds and the bees,
An army of ants labors silently by,
Building and stocking their little empire
Sunlight fades and it’s time for twilight to fall,
I pause as I listen to a night-bird’s call,
All’s well! Is the message sent thro’ the air,
As dusk settles down on the earth so fair.
And as night’s mantle gently covers the sky,
I settle, soft petals for a bed as I lie,
Eagerly awaiting the break of day,
Ready to take off! Up and away!
